In a move primarily disrespectful to Rihanna, fashion website The Daily Front Row has named Kendall Jenner “Fashion Icon of the Decade” as part of its annual Fashion Media Awards. And the internet is not really having it.
For one thing, Kendall Jenner is 21 years old. The award’s insinuation is that she’s been a fashion icon for the past decade, which means that the Front Row believes the outfit below (from 2007, the year “Umbrella” was released) to be an iconic look.
She looks nice! But does anyone remember this? No.
The internet isn’t sure what to make of this whole thing, either. Many people are writing in Rihanna for the honor, and others are going with A$AP Rocky. The consensus, though, seems to be … not Kendall.
Kendall’s outfits are nice and I always look forward to seeing what she wears but like fashion icon of the decade?? Idk about that

If Kendall Jenner is fashion icon of the decade then I think I too should be considered for the Aeropostale polos I wore when I was 11

And the website’s defense of the award, which it provided to HuffPost on Wednesday, mostly focused on Jenner’s social media following:
“We’re living in a digital decade and Kendall is the ultimate style influencer. [The] digital generation more than ever turns to social media to learn what’s next and Kendall has 83 million devoted Instagram followers, many of whom emulate her style. Kendall has also captured the hearts of the leading fashion magazines, photographers, and brands. A fashion icon is someone who influences the look of a generation and Kendall has been making a huge impact on their style. It’s noteworthy that fashion bible Vogue has called her the breakout model of her generation and put her on the cover of their September issue in 2016.”
Whatever. We’ll see about the next Met Gala.
One more thing: if Jenner is receiving this award, may I please receive an equally prestigious award for discarding most of my thumb hole shirts before 2010? You can mail my certificate to the Mashable office.
